A thorough check of your sight and eye health
Eye examinations at Advanced Vision give you time to talk through changes in your sight, comfort, and general eye health with a fully qualified optometrist. We carry out a 30-minute appointment that covers more than a simple sight check, because small vision changes can affect reading, screen use, driving, and day-to-day confidence. Your consultation starts with your history and symptoms, including relevant medical details, family history, and lifestyle factors that could affect what we find.
We then assess your distance, intermediate, and near vision to see if corrective lenses or contact lenses would improve clarity and comfort. Checks on eye muscle coordination, pupil reflexes, and other core functions help us understand how well your eyes are working together. We also provide children’s eye examination appointments tailored to younger patients and explain each stage clearly, so you can ask questions and understand what your results mean before you leave.
Why routine eye exams are important
Changes in your eyesight can happen gradually, which is why routine appointments are useful even if nothing feels dramatically wrong. A detailed examination can pick up early signs that affect your vision as well as wider health concerns visible in the eye. Clear, comfortable sight can make everyday tasks less tiring, especially if you spend long hours reading, driving, or using screens. Our independent approach means you get time for proper discussion, not a rushed in-and-out visit.
What happens during your appointment
Our optometrist looks closely at the inside of your eyes using ophthalmoscopy, which can help identify signs linked to cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, and high blood pressure. Retinal photography gives us detailed digital images of your retinas, making it easier to inspect the blood vessels at the back of the eye.
For patients over 40, or when clinically appropriate, we also measure intraocular pressure as part of a broader eye health check. If your work or symptoms make it relevant, we can assess colour vision, depth perception, and visual fields too.
